(BRIdges for the Next Generation: MATHematical Science Research and Our Future) is a two-day conference for undergraduates interested in the mathematical sciences.
– Hosted at Argonne National Laboratory in  Lemont, Illinois and sponsored by IMSI.
– Purpose: to expose undergraduates to research in mathematics and statistics being done at Argonne and its connections with real world applications, and to educate them about  opportunities related to the mathematical sciences which are available to them, both during summers and longer term.

Eligibility: This event is open to undergraduates at U.S. colleges and universities, and to faculty who wish to accompany a group of students from their institution to this event. Students from groups that are historically underrepresented in the mathematical sciences are strongly encouraged to apply.
Financial support: IMSI is able to offer financial support to cover travel and lodging for participants whose applications are accepted. Housing will be provided at a hotel near Argonne.
Deadline: Applications due no later than June 28, 2024. Students are asked to request a letter of recommendation from a faculty member who knows them and can speak to their potential to benefit from this event. Letters due by July 6, 2024. If your application is accepted, offers of financial support will be made when you are informed of the decision.

Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF)The UW Resilience Lab and the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) fund these grants to support efforts to promote resilience, compassion and sustainability and foster connection and community at the UW. Funded projects will be awarded grants from $500 to $5,000.

Seed grants support impactful activities, programming, projects and/or applied research that align with the following goals of the Resilience Lab and the CSF:
– To cultivate kindness, compassion and gratitude toward each other and ourselves;
– To foster connectedness, belonging and community;
– To embrace common humanity and diversity within the human experience;
– To provide opportunities to the UW community for project-based or applied learning;
– To illuminate the connections between group or personal identities (cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, etc.) and the sustainability of the UW community and environment.
– To educate and/or spark dialogue about environmental and societal problems that disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.Resilience Lab logo

Library Research Award for Undergraduates: Apply by May 1, 2024

The Library Research Award for Undergraduates recognizes excellent undergraduate research and scholarship that demonstrates creative use of information research including UW Libraries resources. The award is given to undergrads who demonstrate outstanding ability to identify, locate, select, evaluate, and synthesize library and other information resources and to use them in the creation of an original course project.
– Submissions are judged on three components: reflective essay, research project, and bibliography.

REQUIREMENTS

– Population Health Award essay (optional)

ELIGIBILITY
– Projects completed from Spring 2024 through Spring 2024 are eligible.
– Projects must have been completed for UW course credit, for the Undergraduate Research Program (URP) or the Undergraduate Research Symposium.
– A project may be in any format or medium, including but not limited to written papers, posters, art, websites, or musical compositions.
– We accept projects in any language, but the reflective essay must be in English.
– Individual and group projects are eligible.  Each student will be judged individually for group projects.

AWARDS
– $1,000 awards are given in three categories: Upper Division ThesisUpper Division Non-Thesis and Lower Division. The lower division award is for students with fewer than 90 college-level credits.
– $500 honorable mention awards are also given.
Population Health Award:  Optional recognition awards of $250 each will be available for innovative, interdisciplinary or well-written research projects relevant to population health.

ELIGIBILTY
 Open to women (cis-women and any persons who identify as women) who will be juniors or seniors at a four-year college or university in the state of Washington in the Fall of 2024.
Applicants must have a declared major in the sciences, engineering or mathematics, and must have a United States issued social security number.
– Winners generally have exemplary grades, outstanding letters of recommendation, financial need, a record of community service, and a strong interest in pursuing a career in the sciences, engineering or mathematics.

The DO-IT CenterThe UW DO-IT Center works on a variety of NSF-funded projects to increase the representation of students with disabilities in STEM careers, including The Alliance for Students with Disabilities for Inclusion, Networking, and Transition Opportunities in STEM (TAPDINTO-STEM). TAPDINTO-STEM project is recruiting up to 8 students majoring in STEM disciplines for a mentoring program to be facilitated by UW faculty.

Undergraduates conducting STEM-research abroad can receive up to $1000 more, and students studying critical need languages may receive up to $3,000 more.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) RISE Germany (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) internship program places undergrads in top research institutions (e.g. Max-Planck-Institutes) and universities in Germany. Students in STEM fields (engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences (geology), computer science, and related disciplines) are mentored by PhD students, integrated into hands-on lab work, and given the opportunity to develop new technical skills. Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF)The UW Resilience Lab and the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) fund these small grants to support efforts to promote resilience, compassion and sustainability and foster connection and community at the UW. Seed grants support impactful activities, programming, projects and/or applied research that align with the following goals of the Resilience Lab and the CSF:
– To cultivate kindness, compassion and gratitude toward each other and ourselves;
– To foster connectedness, belonging and community;
– To embrace common humanity and diversity within the human experience;
– To provide opportunities to the UW community for project-based or applied learning;
– To illuminate the connections between group or personal identities (cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, etc.) and the sustainability of the UW community and environment.
– To educate and/or spark dialogue about environmental and societal problems that disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.

** All members of the UW community – including students, staff and faculty – are eligible to apply; however, preference will be given to teams that include students.

a) Brief background describing the theoretical and/or empirical justification for your proposed project.

c) The Resilience Lab and the CSF are interested in seeing how proposed projects are connected to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The 17 SDGs may serve as inspiration for thinking about different aspects of intersectional sustainability that could be addressed.
3. A detailed, line-item budget proposal for how the funds will be used. Please include a description of matching funds and/or any additional funds to support your project as applicable.
4. (Optional) Letter of support from an appropriate unit lead (e.g., person holding chair, dean or VP-level roles) or letter from a faculty or staff adviser/mentor for student-led applications.

The competition provides UW Bothell, Seattle, and Tacoma students a chance to develop a one-page Lean Canvas pitch for a new FinTech (Financial Technology) product, present their idea to potential investors, and receive feedback on the idea.
The winner of the competition will receive $1000 and the opportunity to present their idea in the statewide Sound Credit Union FinTech Incubator Challenge to compete for $10,000 and a six month membership to CoMotion.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships: Supports 1-4 years of graduate study at Cambridge University. Open to citizens of any country outside the UK considering almost any graduate-level program at Cambridge.
Rhodes Scholarships*: Provides funding for 2-3 years at Oxford University. Open to citizens of any country, and eligibility requirements and nomination processes vary by country. US applicant eligibility requirements include a 3.7 GPA or higher and 18-24 years old by Oct. 1, 2023, or up to 27 years old if you will complete your first degree after 10/1/22.
Marshall Scholarships*: Provide 1-2 years of funding to study at any university in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship, 3.7 GPA or higher, and earn a first bachelor’s degree anytime between April 2021-August 2024.
Churchill Scholarships*: Support one year of graduate study in mathematics, science and engineering fields, or science policy at Cambridge University. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship and graduation anytime between fall 2022 and summer 2024.
Mitchell Scholarships*: Award students one year of funding for study at universities in Ireland, open to all areas of graduate study. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship, 18-30 years old on Sept. 30, 2023 and a bachelor’s degree earned any time before fall 2024.

The Library Research Award for Undergraduates recognizes excellent undergraduate research and scholarship that demonstrates creative use of information research including UW Libraries resources. The award is given to undergrads who demonstrate outstanding ability to identify, locate, select, evaluate, and synthesize library and other information resources and to use them in the creation of an original course project.
– Submissions are judged on three components: reflective essay (30 points), project (20 points), and bibliography (10 points).

ELIGIBILITY

– Projects must have been completed for UW course credit, for the Undergraduate Research Program (URP) or the Undergraduate Research Symposium.
– A project may be in any format or medium, including but not limited to written papers, posters, art, websites, or musical compositions.
– We accept projects in any language, but the reflective essay must be in English.
– Individual and group projects are eligible.  Each student will be judged individually for group projects.

AWARDS
– $1,000 awards are given in three categories: Upper Division ThesisUpper Division Non-Thesis and Lower Division. The lower division award is for students with fewer than 90 college-level credits.
– $500 honorable mention awards are also given.

The Letter of Intent Deadline for the CSF Spring Grant Cycle has been EXTENDED to Thurs, March 9 at 11:59pm.

– Great way to receive funding for your unique project ideas, interface with the grantmaking process, and lead change on UW’s campus.
– Project awards start at $5,001 and are not capped – although the average award is around $30k.
Projects funded in the past
Application: The LOI will include a summary of the applicants’ project proposal and a brief explanation of how the project will meet the requirements and preferences of the CSF. At the time of LOI submission, the applicant should have identified key stakeholders and the core project team. Also included at this phase is an itemized estimate of the project’s budget, a thorough timeline for project completion, and primary & secondary contact information.

Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium

1) Space Grant’s Technical Projects (Cube Satellites, High-Altitude Ballooning, Supersonic Rocketry, and the Summer Undergrad Research Program). Email the Space Grant team at nasa(at)uw.edu if you’re interested in applying!
Eligibility: Open to undergrads in STEM majors on any UW campus​.

2) Summer 2023 (Paid) NASA Internships are available at any of NASA’s 10 research centers, as well as the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL). Applications are open through early March.

– Funding for 1 year at Cambridge for those preparing for careers in research
Provides funding to U.S. students for a year of Master’s study at the University of Cambridge, based at Churchill College. Open to rising seniors and alums who graduated within the last year who are interested in either taking classes or engaging in research at Cambridge in 2023-24.
Covers all university and college fees, a living allowance, travel allowance, and possibility of additional research funding.

$50,000 in grad school funding for those seeking to become science and technology experts committed to advancing innovation and collaboration in the private, public, and academic sectors
A new scholarship supporting 100 exceptional U.S., Japanese, Australian, and Indian master’s and doctoral students in STEM fields to study in the U.S.
One-time award of $50,000 which can be used for tuition, research, fees, books, room and board, and related academic expenses.
Eligible applicants include those who will receive a bachelor’s degree by at least August 2023 and plan to start grad studies in fall 2023.

Fulbright provides grants to pursue independent research, the creative arts, graduate level study, or assistant English teaching for 8-10 months abroad. During their grants, Fulbrighters meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing experiences and building relationships.  Attend an information session or join the Global Fellowships Prep group to learn more!

REQUIREMENTS
– Open to U.S. citizens who will have a bachelor’s degree by the start of the grant (Summer 2023)

Do you have an innovative idea that would enhance the UW student experience? The Husky Seed Fund has the resources to make your idea a reality! Created by students for students, the Husky Seed Fund provides up to $5,000 for you, or a small team, to pursue your passions and bring your projects to life. 

Awardees develop project management and leadership skills while they execute impactful and inventive strategies to elevate the Husky Experience. This is a unique opportunity to strengthen the entire Husky community by promoting inclusivity and helping to make all students feel that they have a home at the UW. Finalists will be contacted on April 7, 2022 and invited for interviews.

Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Application DUE Mon, Feb 28

UW undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens majoring in any STEM field and going into their junior or senior year in Autumn 2022 are encouraged to apply for the $15,000 ASF scholarship. Students do not need to be pursuing an astronaut career to apply.
This scholarship rewards students who are high-performing academic achievers. Applicants must have conducted a considerable amount of work outside the classroom in their chosen field of study. This may include laboratory research, cooperative education, internships, relevant military experience, entrepreneurial endeavors, and/or documented independent work resulting in technical papers, patents, or similar work product.

– Selected scholars will work with a career coach to secure an unpaid or underpaid internship with a non-profit or government organization in Summer 2022 and will receive $2,500 upon completion of their internship experience.  Open to students of all citizenship statuses and students who demonstrate financial need will be prioritized.

Mortar Board Alumni / Tolo Foundation

2021-22 Merit scholarships from the Mortar Board Alumni/Tolo Foundation are available to current UW sophomores, juniors, seniors, and grad students from all fields of study.  Membership in Mortar Board honor society is not required to apply.  The program annually recognizes UW for distinguished achievement in scholarship, leadership and service to the campus and community.

Eligibility & Requirements:
– Applicants must be currently enrolled at UW at the time of application. Applicants must be sophomore, junior, senior, or grad student of UW, including all campuses, throughout the 2021-2022 academic year.

Open to students of Japanese Ancestry attending UW.  Applications are evaluated on academic achievement, financial need, and school/community service, especially to the Japanese-American community.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation Scholarships
Deadline: April 15 for undergrads
Provides funds to advance education in fulfillment of its mission: “To promote lifelong learning.” The Foundation is a source of support to grad students, post-freshman undergrad students and non-profit organizations serving diverse beneficiaries.

American Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Scholarships
Deadline: April 16
Open to US citizen undergrads who will participate in study-abroad programs in Japan beginning Fall 2021. All majors eligible to apply. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.

Schwarzman Scholars program
Deadline: May 19 for Chinese passport holders  /  Sept. 21 for all others
Schwarzman Scholars is a fully-funded, one-year master’s degree and leadership program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Students from all over the world may be eligible.
– Applicants who hold passports or permanent resident cards from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao, regardless of where they attended university or reside, must apply by May 19.

Bernbaum Family Endowed Scholarship Application Open

The Bernbaum Family Endowed Scholarship supports academically meritorious undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in the field of actuarial sciences.

Scholarship amount: $4200

Nominations due: April 23, 2021

Eligibility: 

Undergraduate students who are at least in their ninth quarter at UW and who have at least 3 more quarters to go before completing their degree. Applicants must be enrolled in one of the majors housed in the Statistics, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics Departments:

    • Statistics B.S (all tracks)
    • Mathematics B.A. (all tracks)
    • Mathematics B.S.
    • Applied Mathematics B.S.
    • Computational Finance & Risk Management B.S.
    • Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences (all tracks)

Applicants must have demonstrated interest in a career in actuarial sciences. Examples include taking coursework that would prepare them for the actuarial exams, having taken the actuarial exams, internships in the discipline, participating in the actuarial club, being enrolled in the cross-campus Actuarial Science minor at UW Bothell, among others.

 *   UW Class of 1954 Achievement Scholarship will be awarded to outstanding students at UW who, by their achievements and goals, enrich society and themselves.  Scholarships are awarded to current UW juniors and seniors. Examples of enriching activities might include study abroad, research, studying or working in service to communities (arranging such experiences with a partner agency/organization is a plus). Funding may be used to support activities engaged in during summer 2021. Learn more and apply.

Attend the conference to connect with past alums of the Critical Language Scholarship, Boren Scholarship, Fulbright Program and Gilman Scholarship through this three day virtual event. Daily schedule includes workshops, panels, and networking opportunities.
